Prof. Dr. Ir. Soeprijanto, M.Sc. is a Professor of Waste Management and Bioenergy Biotechnology at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Surabaya. The current research areas are bioethanol, biogas, and chemical industrial waste processing. Soeprijanto earned a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta in 1985, a Master of Science degree in Environmental Biotechnology from Ghent University, Belgium in 1993, and a Doctorate (Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D.) in Environmental Biotechnology, Department of Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom in 2002.
Prof. Soeprijanto is a multidisciplinary expert who combines expertise in bioenergy and industrial wastewater treatment. With a background in Chemical Engineering and extensive experience in both fields, he has been a change agent in efforts to advance sustainable energy and waste management.
As a lecturer, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to integrating bioenergy principles and wastewater treatment technologies to create innovative and sustainable solutions. Soeprijanto's research and development have made significant contributions to utilizing industrial wastewater as a renewable energy source.
Throughout his career, he has been a leading researcher in projects that combine bioenergy concepts and industrial wastewater management. Soeprijanto's presentations at various international forums have provided valuable insights into the potential of integrating bioenergy and wastewater management to achieve sustainability goals.
The awards and recognition he has received reflect his dedication to creating sustainable solutions in these two interrelated fields. He continues to lead with innovation, encouraging industry to adopt sustainable practices in energy production and wastewater management.
In 1994, he collaborated with PT. Petrosida Gresik in waste processing. In 2008-2010, he collaborated with VAPRO Netherlands in the field of Health Safety and Environment (HSE). In 2011-2013, he collaborated with PT. Pindad Turen, Malang in waste processing. In 2012 - present, he was assigned as Head of the Technology Innovation Center - Head of the Center for Appropriate Technology Studies, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Surabaya. In 2012-2019, he became an expert team at the East Java Provincial Research and Development Agency in order to explore regional potential in food and energy security. In 2012-2015, he collaborated with the Netherlands in developing water hyacinth energy as a new renewable energy in Lamongan Regency, East Java and Makassar, South Sulawesi. In 2017-2019, he collaborated with PT. Semen Indonesia in developing biogas energy from a mixture of cow and human waste, and bioethanol energy from king grass in Rembang Regency, Central Java. In 2020, there was a Guest Lecture Series (GLS) activity with Japan and Taiwan-Sweden. While in 2021, there was a Guest Lecture Series activity with the Philippines. In 2023-2024, he conducted Collaborative Research with three countries, namely Indonesia-Philippines-Japan. In 2025, he collaborated with PT. Pertamina in developing the Bioethanol Industry as a renewable energy source using molasses as its raw material in East Java, acting as a reviewer.
