Conference Summary
The International Conference on Chemical Engineering & Industrial Biotechnology 2020 (ICCEIB2020) was organized by the Faculty of Chemical & Process Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang in partnership with our regional peers, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Dalian University of Technology, China. ICCEIB 2020 conference has further cemented its status as among the premier conferences in Malaysia and also in the ASEAN region and has been supported by the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE). The theme for ICCEIB 2020 is “Empowering Sustainable Technological Solutions for Industry and Society”. This conference is designed to disseminate the latest research findings and advances in the chemical engineering and industrial biotechnology area to society. Specifically, focusing on demand, supplies, storage, and transportation issues in food, energy, and water nexus. These areas have become high concerns to the private sector, researchers, academics, industrialists and policy makers. This conference attracted more than 160 participants from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, India, Brunei, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, China, South Korea and Libya. The conference was successfully conducted from 9 -11th August 2020 via online method where Google meet and Facebook were used as communication platforms throughout the conference.

The 1st keynote speaker was Professor Dr. Dan. C. W. Tsang from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong and the title of his speech is Carbon-supported catalysts for sustainable biorefinery in water. He is currently a Programme Leader (EOSH) in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The 2nd keynote speech was given by Prof. Ir. Dr. Sharifah Rafidah Binti Wan Alwi from Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with the title of the speech was ‘Pinching’ Eco Industrial Park: Maximising resource savings and minimising waste and emissions. Our 3rd keynote speaker was Dr. Dai-Viet N. Vo from Center of Excellence for Green Energy and Environmental Nanomaterials (CE@GrEEN), Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Vietnam. The title of the speech was Sustainable Hydrogen Production from Catalytic Reforming Processes of Biomass-derived Feedstocks. We also had a speaker from University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia as our 4th speaker which was Assoc. Professor Pierre Le Clech with the title of the speech was Considering the ageing of membrane processes in water and wastewater treatment and recycling. The 5th keynote speaker was Mr Kiran Parihar from BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn. Bhd. Mr Kiran is currently a Senior Manager in Technology & Process Optimization (Utilities & Wastewater).
The two-day conference comprised of 4 plenary sessions and 5 keynote speakers. Four parallel sessions were held according to the topics:
