Abstract:
Sustainable food production can be regarded holistically through the economic, social, and environmental aspects (Qu et al., 2024). Aqina Fruits, an established MD2 pineapple farming and trading enterprise, strives to be growers that can offer sustainable and quality harvest output. Sustainable food production through social responsibility promotes fair and ethical labour practices, safe working conditions, and community engagement to help small-scale businesses thrive. Aqina aims to develop individuals from the B40 group community into skilled farmers and entrepreneurs whilst increasing income and achieve financial stability. Launched in 2020, our CSR campaign; Program Agro Komuniti B40, has helped the livelihoods of over 30 local farmers in Pahang and Sabah. From an environmental standpoint, implementing digitalization in agriculture encourages smart farming methods and mitigates wastage of resources. The utilization of AI technology and high-tech machinery can assist farmers in optimizing water and fertilizer usage through data collection and tracking. Aqina farms are equipped with high-impact boom sprayers and drones for fertilization, which helps to enhance efficiency, reduce labour costs, and prevent bio-security threats by minimizing human interaction within the plots. Aqina also explores innovation and adaptation in order to promote healthier consumption while lowering the environmental impact. Aqina employs a unique circular farming system that integrates MD2 pineapple cultivation with poultry farming, where pineapple enzyme is created to feed our chickens. The chicken manure is subsequently recycled as organic fertilizer for pineapple cultivation, forming a complete cycle. This has become a value-added component to our innovative and sustainable approach in both pineapple and poultry farming industry.
